Code
of Conduct –
Broadway Bound company members are held to a high degree
of accountability. Company members are expected to regularly
attend technique classes and team rehearsals, maintain
good relations with all company members, and coaches,
actively participate at conventions, and approach dance
with enthusiasm and a positive attitude. In addition,
dancers are expected to adhere to the company contract.
Dancers will be dismissed from the company for any of
the following: vandalism, theft, drugs (including tobacco),
alcohol, harassment, hazing, or assault.
-
Is fundraising available?
Fundraising is available for anyone wishing to participate.
We are already starting to plan fundraisers for the 2008-09
season. More information on fundraisers will be available
at the informational meeting for new members on May 27th.
Parents are welcome to help organize and plan fundraisers
for the teams. If you are interested in helping organize
a fundraiser please talk to Denise Rhoades or Jen Jamison.
-
Are technique classes included in the cost of the company?
Every dancer will be taking technique classes specific
to their technical level and interests, therefore, company
costs do not include technique classes. (This includes
the Junior Company Technique Class.)
- Can
I take lyrical jazz or hip-hop instead of jazz?
Jazz is a requirement for all company members because
it is in jazz that your learn all of the tricks and the
style needed to be a competition dancer. While you can
take lyrical jazz or hip-hop as an additional technique
hour, you can not substitute them in place of a jazz class.
- Can
Teen and Senior Company Members compete solos, duos, or
trios?
Teen and Senior Company members are encouraged to compete
solos, duos and trios with prior approval from the coaching
staff. Please keep in mind that small group numbers have
additional fees. First, soloist will need to plan on an
additional $90 per competition and, duet and trio participants
will need to plan on an additional $50 per dancer per
competition. Second, solo, duet, and trio costuming will
be the responsibility of the participants. Third, small
group numbers must be choreographed or cleaned by a member
of the Broadway Bound Coaching Staff. Choreography is
a set fee of $75 per minute of choreography. Clean and
private coaching (including teaching of the routine) will
be charged at an hourly private rate. Finally, depending
on the convention, small group participants may be asked
to compete on a Friday evening and would need to help
pay for the additional hotel night. Due to competition
guidelines, we are only allowed to enter a limited number
or routines so please let Denise Rhoades or Jen Jamison
know if you are interested in competing a solo or small
group piece as soon as possible. Coaches reserve the right
to have the final decision on who competes solos and small
group numbers at any convention.
- Can
Junior Company members compete solos, duos, or trios?
Junior company members may be allowed to compete small
group numbers with prior approval from coaching staff.
(Please note the specifics of competing small group numbers
as discussed above in FAQ #5.) In addition to choreography/cleaning,
junior company members would be required to take a minimum
of 3 private lessons with a coaching staff member to increase
their technique to competitive level.
- What
are the summer requirements for company members?
Company members are required to attend summer classes
at Broadway Bound. All Teen and Senior company members
will be required to attend at least one ballet and one
jazz / turn and progressions intensive. Junior Company
members will have a Junior Company Intensive that will
cover ballet and jazz. In addition, team members will
be required to attend a summer rehearsal/choreography
time. (See Summer
Schedule for more information).
- What
can I expect at Teen and Senior Company auditions?
Junior, Teen and Senior Company auditions are on May 23th
from 4 pm to 6 pm for ages 8-12 and 7 pm to 9 pm for ages
13+. Auditions will be closed to observers. First, dancers
will be led in a warm-up and stretch by a graduating Senior
Company member. Dancers will then be asked to demonstrate
their right, left and center splits. Second, dancers will
be asked to demonstrate various kicks, turns, and leaps
across the floor. Third, dancers will learn an adagio
(center floor) that they will be asked to demonstrate.
This is to help the judges determine your turnout, control,
extension, strength, and basic technique. Fourth, dancers
will learn an audition combo comprised of two eight counts
of lyrical, four eight counts of jazz, and two eight counts
of hip-hop. Dancers will audition in groups of two. Finally,
results will be posted on the front door of Broadway Bound
on Monday, May 26th at 12 pm. Team members for 2008-09
season should plan on attending the meeting on Tuesday,
May 27th from 5:30 to 7 pm.
- What
if I have never taken a ballet class?
Ballet will definitely help you and we will be judging
you on an adagio combination but it is not required that
you have previously taken a ballet class. Ballet is a
small portion of the total audition which includes jazz,
hip-hop, stage presence, strength, tricks, technique,
and flexibility. However, if dancers make a team they
will be required to take at least one ballet class. Private
lessons are available to help prepare you for the ballet
portion of the audition. Please see Denise Rhoades for
information.
- How
can I prepare for auditions?
First, pay special attention to your instructors in your
technique classes! This is an ideal time to start perfecting
your technique. Second, stretching is very important.
Spend extra time everyday working on your flexibility
and strength. Finally, attending weekend workshops, taking
private lessons, and/or taking the audition preparation
class/workshop available through the studio will help
you increase your technique, learn new tricks, and improve
your ability to pick up new choreography quickly. For
more information on attending a workshop or setting up
private lessons, please see Denise Rhoades or Jen Jamison.
